Ace the Interview – Here’s How!

Interviews are the most important part of your job search – you already have your foot in the door, now all you have to do is wow them with your skillset and personality. JOBS by FMCA wants to make sure bring your interview A-game, so we’ve provided some helpful tips below.

TIP #1: When you are going on your interview, make sure that you groom yourself properly a few days before to ensure you look clean and well-groomed. A professional appearance is very important if you want to make a strong, first impression on your interviewer.

TIP #2: Be sure you are dressed professionally for your interview since first impressions are a big deal. You always want to look your best even when you first meet a potential employer. Wear clothes that are appropriate for the type of job that you are applying for. When you look the part, the hiring manager can visualize how you can fit into his organization.

TIP #3: Have questions prepared for your interviewer. You are certainly going to be asked about any questions you might have. Inquire about the company culture, the position itself, and whatever interests you.

TIP #4: Do some research on the company you’re interviewing with. Find out what skills you would need to succeed with this particular company, and advice that may help you shine during your interview.

TIP #5: Do your best to maintain eye contact with the interviewer. Do not try to stare them down (that could be creepy, haha), but keep eye contact as much as possible. This shows the interviewer that you are paying attention and that you show interest in what they have to say. Practice with a friend before your interview and keep eye contact in mind.

TIP #6: If the interview process causes you to become introverted and anxious, you will have problems communicating your true worth to the interviewer. Many career coaches advise you to walk into each meeting as if you already have the job. If your qualifications and experience match the job description, it is not much of a stretch to imagine yourself landing the position. Knowing this makes it easier to focus on the unique qualities and ideas that set you apart, compared to those that offer no distinct advantage.

Remember that a job interview allows both, you and the interviewer to get to know each other. View the interview as an opportunity to see whether you would like to work for this company instead of worrying about whether the interviewer will want to hire you. This new perspective will help you relax so that you can perform your best during the interview.
